Real Nomadic Life, Not a Show
A handful of nomadic families still move seasonally across the desert fringe near Merzouga, herding goats and camels between grazing grounds much as their ancestors did. We work with families we know personally to arrange time inside that world — not a recreated “nomad camp” built for tourists, but an actual household, with its own tent, animals, and rhythm of the day.
Depending on the length you choose, this might mean an afternoon drinking tea and hearing how a family plans its next move, an overnight sharing their tent and a meal cooked over the fire, or up to three days helping with daily tasks like herding, fetching water, and setting up camp. It is slow, quiet, and built on relationships we have maintained over years — the opposite of a quick staged stop on a bigger tour.

There is no fixed script — the day follows the family’s own rhythm, and you simply join it.

Arrival and First Tea
You arrive at the family’s camp mid-morning, greeted with the first round of tea while the household goes about its usual morning tasks around you.

Herding and Daily Tasks
Depending on the season, this might mean joining the herd as it moves to grazing ground, helping fetch water, or simply observing how the tent and camp are managed day to day.
Midday
A Shared Meal
Lunch is cooked over the fire and eaten together, often the same simple, hearty dishes the family eats every day, not a version prepared for guests.
Afternoon
Conversation and Learning
A slower stretch of the day, spent talking with the family (through your guide, who translates) about their seasonal movements, herd management, and the practicalities of nomadic life today.
Evening (Multi-Day Only)
Fireside Dinner and Rest
For overnight and multi-day visits, evening brings a second shared meal by the fire, more tea, and rest inside the family’s own tent under the desert sky.
